Terror at the hands of the Black and Tans. During the morning of November 21, 1920, members of Michael Collins "12 Apostles", visited over a dozen private addresses in the south of Dublin. Fourteen people had died, eight of them were British agents, two were auxiliaries, the rest were either bystanders or informers. It was a horrendous act that did its job, terrorize the British government.
A mixture of forces from the RIC and Auxiliaries raided a Gaelic Football match between Dublin and Tipperary at Croke Park. Their stated intentions was that they were searching for suspects in the killings from the morning since the park was only a couple miles away from the sites. Once they breached the grounds, They opened fire indescriminately on the crowd and killed 14 people on the spot including a player named Michael Hogan. |
During the night, Three Republican prisoners had been murdered in Dublin Castle. Reports stated that they were attempting to escape. It is unclear as to whether or not those claims are true, but what is known is that those men's lives were another horrible addition to the tragedy of Bloody Sunday. |
